So let’s talk hair today. It’s been a year in the making, well really 30 years when you get down to the root (see what I did there?) of it, but I feel like I finally have a hair style that matches my personality!
I always felt that if my hair wasn’t long, then I wouldn’t be pretty. There are all kinds of weird stigmas with short hair out there and I have no idea why. So for years I liked the idea have having a pixie cut, but never thought I could pull it off.
Well, over the past year I have been cutting my hair shorter and shorter. My husband and I joke that every time I go it gets shorter and one day I’m going to come home bald (who knows, it could happen). This summer I hit a short pixie style that I can spike. . . or not, but it feels fun, cool and quirky. For the first time, I feel like my outside look matches my inner personality. Plus, it is so easy to maintain. Heck most days I legitimately wake up and don’t do a thing. Now that’s a good haircut!
I wanted to write this post for all of you out there who feel like you can’t “pull it off”, or “won’t be as attractive”, or think “my husband won’t like it”. If you want to do it, go for it. Take the chance and do it.
But, there are a few tips that I have learned this past year to get me to this point and I want to share them with you.
- Give it time – I didn’t love the first few hair cuts, but each time they grew on me after a few days or a week. And now, I look at old pictures with long hair and think I look weird.
- There is a learning curve – Just like anything, it takes time to learn how to style a short cut so it works for you. That being said, there are plenty of bloggers and YouTube tutorials. Keep trying until you find what works.
- Own it and wear it with confidence – I think the biggest tip I can give is to be confident. Some days I didn’t feel like I looked good, and I was really self conscience about my hair. But I started to tell myself to fake it and wear my hair with confidence. Now, I have more confidence than ever and I get so many compliments. One of my favorites was “I really like your hair, and your glasses and you lips. . . basically I like your face”. It was a random stranger, but it made me feel great. I get comments like that all the time and I swear it’s because I walk with a new confidence and people see that
My husband was not convinced with my hair initially (he only knew me with long hair), but he was never one to tell me what to do either. Now he tells me how great I look, and that I am a “sexy mama”. Plus the lack of hair in the shower drain I think helps!!
