We just got back from visiting my dad in Florida last week. We had a great time, but it reaffirmed my reason for keeping my kids on a strict schedule.

I don’t mind a little flexibility, especially at grandma and grandpa’s house, but oh boy, a messed up nap and sleep schedule sure makes for cranky babies.

Austin has a pretty consistent schedule, where as Lucy’s isn’t as clear and defined. However, I realized that even though Lucy’s “schedule” isn’t as “textbook” as Austin’s, she still has a schedule.

So, here is what our schedules look like:

Austin – 2 years old

7:30am –¬†wake up

8:00am – breakfast/get ready for the day

9:00am – head out for morning activities

11:00am – 12:00pm – playtime and lunch

1:00 – 4:00 – nap/rest time

4:00pm – snack, play, start dinner

5:30pm – dinner

6:00 – 7:00pm – play, go for walk

7:00 pm – get ready for bed

7:30pm – bedtime

Lucy – 5 months old

7:00am – wake up

9:00am – car nap/carrier nap

11:00am – playtime

1:30pm – nap

3:00pm – wake up to nurse, back down for nap

5:00pm – wake up/playtime

7:00pm – get ready for bed with Austin

7:30pm – bedtime

For as random as I thought her schedule was, it wasn’t until she was all out of whack last week that I realized it was a schedule that she was used to and it works for us. I mean what mom is going to complain when both her kids nap all afternoon?

With Lucy being so young, her schedule is sure to change again, but it is a schedule that works for us.

When I mess with the schedule I get cranky children and it takes days to get back on track. So, all though I am okay with getting off track sometimes, most of the time I just assume plan our life to fit the schedule.
